“God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, Even though the earth be removed, And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though its waters roar and be troubled, Though the mountains shake with its swelling. There is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God, The holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High. God is in the midst of her, she shall not be moved; God shall help her, just at the break of dawn.”

Psalm 46: 1-5

Promises: God is our refuge and strength, always there when we are in trouble.

As I age, I identify more and more with the psalmist who wrote this passage of scripture. Every day, I’m learning that life with its valleys and mountaintop experiences has a way of humbling us. I see mountains being carried into the sea. I see and hear the water roaring. Sometimes, there’s a shaking all around me. But then, I’m led to a psalm like this one. I am reminded that God is my refuge – my sanctuary, my shelter, my safe haven. He is my strength. It is only through him that I am empowered.

PRAYER: I am so glad that you are God. I will exalt you among the nations. I will exalt you in the earth. Thank you for being with me and with us. Thank you, God of Jacob, for being our refuge. In the name of Jesus, I pray and give thanks. Amen
