My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline, and do not resent his rebuke, because the Lord disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in.
Proverbs 3:11-12
We all have been disciplined by the Lord. How have you responded? The writer of this proverb says that we should not despise the Lord’s discipline or resent it when he rebukes us. His discipline just means that he loves us and is committed to transforming us to the image of His son.
If you are a parent, you should understand this proverb in a real way. As parents, we know we need to discipline our children. When we correct them, it is not because we hate them, it is because we love them. We want better for them. We want them to be safe. We want them to do well in life.
Is discipline comfortable? Absolutely not. It is not comfortable at all, but it works in us the peaceable fruit of righteousness. The other thing to remember about God’s discipline is that it never comes with condemnation. It prompts repentance and not resentment.
PRAYER: Lord, thank you for every time you disciplined me. I appreciate your concern and love for me. Let me receive your discipline in the right spirit, so that it does what it is intended. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.
