“But from there you will seek the Lord your God, and you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul.” Deuteronomy 4:29

When I was a little girl, my mother taught my siblings and me poems to recite in church. My sisters and my recitations were always long – several verses. Sometimes we started as early as March to learn something that was to be recited in September. Our brother whose “excuse” was always having more farm chores than us to do only had to learn short poems. One of his famous two-liners was, “If a task is once begun, never leave it until it’s done. Be the labor great or small; do it well or not at all.” Our Mama didn’t believe in half-stepping, and while our brother was the one who recited it publicly, we knew those lines just as well as he did. As a matter of fact, as I go about my daily activities now, when I even think about doing a “half job,” I hear the words of that mantra.

The passage in Deuteronomy referenced above is a stark reminder that if we are going to seek the Lord, we should do it with all our hearts, and with all our souls.

PRAYER: Lord, I never want to be disconnected from you. I always want to be connected to you. Help me to seek you with my whole heart and soul. In the name of Jesus, I pray and give you thanks. Amen
