In the same way, those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples.
Luke 14:33
Luke 14:28-30 states, “Suppose one of you wants to build a tower, Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it? For if you lay the foundation and are not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule you saying, ‘This person began to build and wasn’t able to finish.’” This passage of scripture points to our need to give up or renounce everything for the cause of Christ. Most of us want to keep everything in our lives and add Christ to it. We must remember discipleship comes with a cost.
This year, let us not focus on adding more of Christ to already filled plates. Yes, we can fast, pray, read scriptures, and spend time with God—still holding on to what he told us to give up. This year, let’s ask him what we should sacrifice for Him and His Kingdom? It should cost us something.
PRAYER: Lord, I admit that I have tried to add you to a life that was already filled with things that please me. It is time for me to grow up and ask you what you want me to sacrifice so that I can truly thrust myself in your will and way. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen
