Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.

James 4:10

Our final gateway of gratitude is humility. Au and Au say that humility counters narcissistic entitlement. If we feel that we are entitled to something, we are not grateful. Oh, to be poor in spirit is to acknowledge our need for him. Humility is knowing that we are dependent on him. We need him for everything. He is the air we breathe.

With that in mind, we must humble ourselves before him and allow him to lift us up. It is through this humility that we grow in gratitude, for everything that we need is outside of our capacity to get it. Our needs are met in HIM!

PRAYER: Lord, help me grow in my awareness of my need for you. Keep my spirit humble before you so that I always look to you for help. Lord, let this humility bolster my gratitude for you, knowing that everything that I need is outside of me and in YOU.
